“Daddy makes me chicken fingers, plays video games with me, cuddles me when I’m sick, and takes me for bike rides.” ❤️

Honestly… pretty important work too 😄

But this week, Arlo’s dad — Colin Campbell, AKRC Hub Operator (Keewatin Hub Office) — came into the classroom to show what he also does for our communities!

Colin brought in a hands-on water activity for the students:
🫙 Jar 1 – really dirty
🫙 Jar 2 – kinda dirty
🫙 Jar 3 – clean

The kids quickly nailed which was clean and which was dirty 👍

Then came the twist…

Three jars of crystal-clear water 👀

Suddenly it wasn’t so easy! The class had lots of mixed answers, which opened the door to an important lesson — sometimes water can look clean but still have tiny bugs we can’t see that can make us sick.

Colin showed how his work helps keep our drinking water safe by adding a special chemical test 💧

✨ “If the water turns pink… it’s good to drink!” ✨

The kids LOVED it — lots of curiosity, lots of laughs, and lots of great questions. They even asked him to come back for the older grades! 😂

Miigwech to Colin for taking the time to share this important work and help teach our future water protectors 💙🌎

Standing Strong on Treaty No. 3

On October 3, 1873, our ancestors, the Anishinaabeg of the Lake of the Woods region, entered into Treaty No. 3 with the Crown. This was not a surrender of our lands or our identity—it was an agreement to share and live in peace, rooted in Anishinaabe law and teachings.

For generations, the Crown has tried to diminish or take away the rights promised to us. Yet the Anishinaabeg have never given up, and we continue to stand strong. Treaty 3 is a living, sacred agreement. It affirms our inherent rights to our lands, waters, language, and way of life. These rights cannot be erased.

Why It Matters Today

Treaty 3 reminds us of the strength and resilience of our people. It is the foundation of our sovereignty and our nation-to-nation relationship. Honoring the treaty means holding the Crown accountable and ensuring that future generations know the promises made to our ancestors must be respected and upheld.

Our Commitment as Anishinaabeg

We will continue to:

Protect our lands and waters as stewards for the next seven generations.

Defend our rights to hunt, fish, harvest, and live as Anishinaabeg.

Stand united as a powerful people, honoring the vision and strength of our ancestors.

Treaty No. 3 is not just history—it is our future. We take this day as a day to remember, to honor those who came before us, and to carry forward their teachings, their strength, and their determination. The Crown may try to limit us, but as Anishinaabeg, we know who we are, and we will always rise to protect what is ours.

The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, observed each year on September 30, is a time to honor the survivors of residential schools, remember the children who never returned home, and acknowledge the lasting impacts these institutions have had on Indigenous families and communities across Canada.

This day is rooted in the work of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC), which gathered the voices and stories of more than 6,000 survivors. The TRC’s Calls to Action remind us that reconciliation is not just about the past, but about the future we are building together.

Why It Matters

Residential schools operated in Canada for more than a century with the goal of erasing Indigenous identities, languages, and cultures. Generations of children were taken from their families and communities, leading to deep intergenerational trauma that is still felt today. Truth and Reconciliation invites all people—Indigenous and non-Indigenous—to reflect on this history, acknowledge the harm that was done, and commit to healing and change.

How You Can Help

Learn and Share: Take time to read survivor stories, watch documentaries, and attend community events that share truths about residential schools.

Wear Orange: Orange Shirt Day, also recognized on September 30, symbolizes the stripping away of culture, freedom, and self-esteem experienced by Indigenous children. Wearing orange is a simple but powerful way to show solidarity.

Support Survivors and Families: Offer compassion, listen with respect, and stand with survivors and their descendants as they continue to heal.

Commit to Action: Reconciliation is ongoing. Support Indigenous-led initiatives, advocate for equity in education, health, and governance, and keep the conversation alive in your family, schools, and workplaces.

Sharing Knowledge and Stories

Reconciliation grows when stories are told and listened to. Every survivor’s story is a thread in the fabric of truth, reminding us of resilience, strength, and the importance of never forgetting. By sharing knowledge and creating space for dialogue, we honor those who endured, those who are healing, and those we lost.

Together, we can walk the path of truth and reconciliation—grounded in respect, understanding, and a shared commitment to a better future.
