LOCATION: AKRC Member First Nations (Big Grassy, Onigaming, NWA37, NWA33, WON)

SALARY RANGE: Based upon experience

The Student Success Lead is responsible for the co-ordination and delivery of the Student Success and Retention component within AKRC’s five member First Nations. The Student Success Lead will work towards working in partnership with classroom teachers to support students who are experiencing academic and social/emotional challenge AND Support students throughout school and from secondary school to post-secondary destinations including college, the workplace, university, and apprenticeship programs.


  • Bachelor of Arts / Science / Bachelor of Education, or an Indigenous Education program diploma.
  • Other diploma programs will be considered if a candidate is willing to begin a teaching program.
  • Experience or knowledge of best practices in Youth Counselling.
  • Primary, Junior and/or Intermediate qualifications would be an asset.
  • Special Education qualifications would be an asset.
  • Membership in the Ontario College of Teachers would be an asset.
  • Excellent management, planning and organizational skills are required.
  • A clear criminal record check and vulnerable sector check.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
  • Anishinaabemowin Proficiency is a highly valued asset.


  • Planning and implementation of the Student Success program(s).
  • Active involvement with the program, its personnel, and participating schools.
  • Assist with the initiating of a network with provincial school boards and other First Nation schools/organizations in order to actively pursue student improvement in the areas of Student Success and Retention.
  • Collect all of the required Student Success and Retention data and indicators.
  • Organize and/or deliver professional development to all schools.
  • Using multiple programs such as Microsoft Word, Zoom, and Excel for the documentation of sensitive information.
  • Establish strong communication and collaboration among students, educational institutes, and AKRC (developing surveys, one-to-one sessions, group activities, etc.).
  • Monthly reporting.
  • Using multiple programs such as Microsoft Word, Zoom, and Exce for the documentation of sensitive information.
  • Encourage positive role modelling, behavior designed to instill pride, self-esteem and cultural identify for Anishinaabe students.
  • Other duties as assigned by the AKRC’s Education Support Services.
