The Anishinaabeg of Kabapikotawangag are historically known as
The People of the Lake, the Spirit Lake, commonly referred to as the Lake of the Woods

Lake of the Woods, including the Aulneau Peninsula has long served as a central focus of subsistence for the Anishinaabeg of Kabapikotawangag. In 1995 the Anishinaabeg of Kabapikotawangag Resource Council (AKRC), was created to directly benefit and protect the interests of its membership, in areas including but not limited to health, social education, infrastructure and resource management issues.

Education

MANDATE & PROTOCOL
  • All direction is community based and community driven; 
  • The Kabapikotawangag Protocol shall be the forerunner in the initiation, design and implementation of programs and services of the Education Unit;
  • Advisory services are based on the individual and collective needs of the member First nations and their population;
  • Oral, written and technological reporting will be done in accordance with AKRC policies and procedures;

  Requests for advisory services outside of the roles and responsibilities of the designated staff member
will be brought forward for management approval prior to initiation of new projects.

  VISION STATEMENT

  The Anishinaabeg of Kabapikotawangag Resource Council Incorporated will provide to its member First Nations protection and insurance to their inherent right to achieve a higher quality of education based on traditional teachings, culture and customs as given to us by the Creator, which enhance other educational systems for the betterment of First Nations communities for generations to come.

 

This will last as long as the sun will shine and water runs, that is to say forever .”
